Evaluate neural stem cells for neurodegenerative disease models—Neural stem cell–specific protein expression and mitochondrial assessment

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects 1% of people over age 60 and more than 5 million people worldwide. PD results from the selective loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra region of the brain. The loss of these neurons initially affects movement. As the disease progresses, however, cognitive function is impaired, and late-stage disease is often accompanied by dementia.
