Content: Polar pesticides such as glyphosate and its metabolite AMPA have become a hot topic in recent years. The potential carcinogenic nature of glyphosate and the discovery of this compound in various food sources has led to an increased amount of testing in food and water samples. Glyphosate and other polar pesticides are not retained by C18 columns and current HPLC methods require derivitisation or speciality columns which show robustness issues. Ion chromatography coupled to a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer has been used to separate polar pesticides without the need for derivitisation.
