Understanding coated vs. uncoated ELISA kits
Coated ELISA kits
Uncoated ELISA kits
Invitrogen pre-coated ELISA kits are ready-to-use and have been tested to provide the lowest possible inter- and intra-assay variability and the highest possible lot-to-lot consistency.
ELISA kits with precoated plates help ensure that you obtain consistent ELISA performance and are designed for labs that require validated and comprehensively tested kits.
Invitrogen uncoated ELISA kits have the reagents needed to coat-your-own plates, overnight process, and run the assay. Kit configurations provide easy-to-use, flexible options.
Uncoated kits are ideal for experienced ELISA users on a budget with less stringent requirements for inter- and intra-assay variance.
Final kit assembled and tested for reliability and confidence.
Pre-coated plates allow for a protocol typically completed within 4 hours.
Buy bulk reagents at a lower price (2-, 10- or 20-plates) for routine use.
Reagents are provided to allow flexible use of antibodies for any special needs.
Typical product structure of coated ELISA kits include:
Typical product structure of uncoated ELISA kits include:
Plates are optional for 10- and 20- plate sizes. Wash buffer and Stop solution are sold separately.
|Matched antibody pair kits|
Matched antibody pair kits are pre-titered and optimized for the development of ELISA or immunoassays on other platforms.

Buffers are sold separately.
Instant ELISA kits
Dramatically increase ELISA productivity with as little as 15 minutes setup time, one wash step, and as much as 1 hour lab work saved. Simply rehydrate, add samples to perform a one-wash assay. Same results as typical ELISAs, but with a shortened workflow and hands-on time.
- No laborious preparation of reagents
- No serial dilutions of standards
- No sequential additions to the plate
How Instant ELISA kits work
In contrast to conventional ELISA kits where pre-coated plates include only the capture antibody when the sample is added, Instant ELISA kit plates contain all of the necessary components including capture antibody and lyophilized detection antibody, streptavidin-HRP, and sample diluent. In addition, strip wells containing the standard for the standard curve are provided separately; they are ready-to-use, saving both time and wells.
Comparison of Instant ELISA technology vs. conventional ELISA procedures. With Instant ELISA kits, all the preparation work has been done for you, thereby decreasing hands-on time per experiment.
Conventional ELISA standards vs. Instant ELISA kit standards. With Instant ELISA kits, you receive a full 96-well plate for your samples, and two separately packed double standard curves. This enables the use of all 96 wells for your samples. In contrast, conventional ELISA kits allow the use of 80 wells on a 96-well plate for samples. Instant ELISA kits expand your ELISA capacity by 20%.
Fewer steps help to save time and reduce variation. With Instant ELISA kits, all the preparation work has been performed for you. There are only 7 working steps when using an Instant ELISA kit, as opposed to 17 steps when performing a conventional ELISA. Therefore, you can decrease total hands-on time per experiment to about 1 hour by adopting the Instant ELISA technique.
