Life Technologies has been named to MIT Technology Review’s list of the 50 Most Innovative Companies for 2011, a list of “… the world's most innovative technology companies highlight[ing] businesses whose work is changing industries and lives.”

With 50,000 products used in innovative labs all around the world, Technology Review focused in on Life Technologies’ Personal Genome Machine, a desktop genomic sequencer, as a key innovation in the biomedicine category. The company is included in the biomedicine category for its “quick, cheap DNA sequencing [that] will lead to new diagnostic tests and targeted treatments.”

The feature also includes an interview with Jonathan Rothberg, founder of Life Technologies’ Ion Torrent unit, who developed the Personal Genome Machine.
