1st Jan 2014 price change notification—Frequently Asked Questions

At Life Technologies, we are committed to providing our customers with high quality products and a premium customer service. We also endeavour to bring you innovative products to support every day research and scientific advances alike.

In order to achieve this, we do however need to review our list prices and have again worked hard to keep the increases to a minimum. Although price increases have been necessary in some areas, for almost 60% of our portfolio, prices will remain unchanged, or will even decrease to help you stretch your budget further.

Please find below some Frequently Asked Questions which should hopefully help with any queries you may have. However if the answer you are looking for is not here then please do not hesitate to contact your Life Technologies Account Manager who will be happy to help.

1.

Why is Life Technologies changing its prices?

Similar to most companies in the industry, Life Technologies reviews its prices on an annual basis and adjusts them accordingly to offset rising raw material, distribution and new product innovation costs.

Life Technologies continues to manage its day to day base costs in a vigilant way, but we recognise that our suppliers have increasing costs that they pass on to us in the form of price increases. As that happens, we have to look at our cost profile and act accordingly to allow us to maintain the supply and manufacture of quality products and services that our customers expect from a leading Life Sciences company.

2.

What are the list price changes going to be?

The change in price differs per product but it averages out at only 1.7% across the whole portfolio.

3.

How is the % increase determined?

In addition to those factors previously mentioned (i.e to offset rising raw material, distribution and new product innovation costs), we also consider product lifecycle and any macroeconomic factors.

Depending upon the nature of the product, some prices will have increased whilst others have remained the same or even decreased. In fact, for almost 60% of our products we managed to hold pricing levels at 2013 prices or decrease the list price to help you stretch your budget further.

4.

When will list prices be available?

If you would like any information on 2014 list prices, please contact your Life Technologies Account Manager. All list prices can be viewed online at www.lifetechnologies.com from 1st January 2014.

5.

When can I see my new agreement?

Your Life Technologies Account Manager should be in contact with your account before the end of the year to provide your new agreement for 2014. Please update your systems accordingly to ensure your 2014 orders are processed without delay.

6.

What is your 2014 freight policy?

Similar to most companies in the industry, Life Technologies reviews its freight policy on an annual basis and adjusts it accordingly to offset rising distribution costs. Life Technologies continues to work hard to contain these costs but believes this freight policy review is essential to retain the levels of service our customers expect.

Although our standard rates will be adjusted, we will only be passing on a portion of the anticipated increases from our carriers for 2014.

Also, our standard order value thresholds will again remain unchanged for now so you can take advantage of consolidating all your requirements from Life Technologies onto a single order to avoid a handling charge.

7.

What are the freight policy changes going to be?

The changes differ by country. All revised country standard freight terms for 2014 can be viewed online from 1st January 2014 at www.lifetechnologies.com.

8.

When will the new prices/freight policy come into effect?

1st of January 2014.

9.

How will these price changes affect me? What about my existing agreement?

The prices you pay may change depending upon the terms of your quote and when it comes up for renewal. The new list prices may impact your pricing if you currently get a discount from standard list price. Your Life Technologies Account Manager should be in contact with your account soon to discuss renewal of your existing agreement if it is due to expire.

10.

Can I get a copy of my country price list?

Life Technologies does not publish country price lists however our pricing is available on our website or through your Life Technologies Account Manager.

11.

Do Life Technologies' price increases only apply to certain customers?

Our list prices change across the board. For details on how these changes will impact you specifically, please contact your Life Technologies Account Manager.

12.

When should I upload pricing?

Please work with your Life Technologies Account Manager to ensure that you load your new pricing before the end of the year. This will help alleviate any order processing delays once the new pricing goes live on 1st January 2014.

13.

I'm a B2B customer—is the process different for me?

The only additional steps in the B2B process involve loading and approving your 2014 e-catalogue via the 3rd party provider. Your Life Technologies Account Manager will be in contact in due course to finalise your new pricing and allow sufficient time for your system to be updated.

14.

How and when will we be contacted/informed about this change?

This year, we have communicated our list price change notification earlier than in previous years. You will receive further communications in November, December and January. Your Life Technologies Account Manager may also be in contact to discuss any changes that will affect your account in 2014.
