At Thermo Fisher Scientific, “Going Green” is a process of continual improvement in our operations, our products, and customer relations, in order to achieve greater sustainability in everything we do and make.

Going Green: Our Employees

Thermo Fisher employees worldwide are spurring the company’s environmental leadership drive. From recycling to energy conservation, employees have turned their “green ideas” into action.

• The Green Team at the environmental instruments business in Oakwood Village, Ohio, initiated aluminum can recycling and plastic reduction programs. Thermo Fisher Scientific mugs were purchased and provided to each employee on Earth Day. The cost of purchasing the mugs amounted to less than what the facility currently pays per year for plastic foam cups. In addition, the shipping department has begun recycling its packaging “peanuts” to reduce the quantity purchased.
• At our facility in Rochester, New York, employees eliminated single-serve bottled water in favor of the NALGENE plastic refillable bottles produced at the site. Every employee was given a “Refill Not Landfill” bottle to encourage the use of reusable containers instead of bottled water.
• In Altrincham, England, the facility’s Green Team has installed recycling bins throughout the building for metals, plastics, high- and low-grade paper, cardboard and glass, as well as fluorescent lighting tubes and computer hardware. As a result, waste management costs have been halved.
• The Milwaukee, Wisconsin, facility has switched to bottle-less water coolers and is introducing recycling bins, environmentally friendly cleaners, and lighting controls.
