As the world leader in serving science, Thermo Fisher Scientific has both an interest in, and a responsibility for, inspiring tomorrow's scientists. The Thermo Fisher Foundation for Science was created to give back to our global community by supporting science students and broadening interest in the STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and math.

The Foundation helps to fund a range of initiatives, including university scholarships and an innovative library-based program to inspire a passion for science at all ages.

Over the past few years, the Thermo Fisher Foundation for Science has provided scholarships to more than 40 students at six universities in the U.S., Europe, and China. Students' areas of study include a range of fields vital to progress in applied sciences. Thermo Fisher Scientific also provides donations to educational institutions, enabling them to train scientists, engineers and researchers using state-of-the-art tools and equipment.

Student Spotlight

Nhu Tran entered San Jose State University thanks in part to a Thermo Fisher Scientific scholarship that is helping her to pursue a degree in biological science, with a focus in molecular biology. "With the financial assistance, I have been able to put more of a focus into doing well in school than worrying about paying tuition," she says.

"Receiving the Thermo Fisher Scientific scholarship has given me the opportunity to dedicate myself to school as well as learn about a company I did not know before," Nhu adds. After receiving her scholarship, she began working as an intern among a team of software developers at the company's San Jose site. "My internship resulted from the 'ripple effect' of applying for the scholarship. I think Thermo Fisher is a wonderful company for offering such an opportunity to me. I do hope that they will continue to inspire other young adults as well."

When she finishes her degree at San Jose State, Nhu hopes to return as a full-time employee at Thermo Fisher’s San Jose site, where she describes her coworkers as, "great, giving people whose professionalism is really inspiring."
