Advancing Health & Safety
Thermo Fisher Scientific makes every effort to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for our employees. In a standard industry measure, Thermo Fisher’s injury incidence and severity continue to be substantially lower than the industry average. The Experience Modification measure of accident costs, or MOD rate, is calculated by the National Council on Compensation Insurance. A MOD of 1, or unity, means a business pays the same Workers’ Compensation insurance as other companies in similar industries. A MOD of 1.2 means a business pays 0.2 or 20% more than their peers; while a MOD rate of 0.8 indicates costs of 0.2 or 20% less. Thermo Fisher’s MOD rate is 0.72, or 28% less than similar companies, for 2007-2008. The success of our safety program is reflected in the records at several of our larger U.S. manufacturing facilities. Locations in Iowa, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Ohio have all exceeded one million man-hours worked without a lost time injury. Marietta, OH - 1,500,000 hours |
