Recycling

Recycling is ingrained in Thermo Fisher's worldwide operations. From manufacturing facilities to sales offices, we capitalize on every opportunity to advance sustainability.

Thermo Fisher Scientific & Recycling in Practice

  • Thermo Fisher Scientific developed the returnable "FisherPak," a stainless steel container approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation. After taking delivery of chemicals, customers simply return the FisherPak for reuse.
  • We developed a method to recycle expired laboratory chemicals. Instead of disposing of all chemicals that are past their expiration dates, they can now be reused in non-critical laboratory applications or sold to other companies where the expired chemicals still meet process specifications.
  • Many of our plastic molding facilities recycle waste from molding and extrusion processes, reusing the material internally or returning it to suppliers.

A team of 21 employees in Oakwood, Ohio spent their lunch break clearing cans, tires, bottles, construction debris and other trash from the area, collecting enough garbage to fill a truck bed measuring six feet deep.

For chemicals in smaller volumes, Thermo Fisher created the "EcoSafPak" made from 100 percent recyclable, biodegradable materials that replace plastic foam.
