Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces a New D-glucose + D-fructose Kit at ACHEMA 2009Fully Automated Assay for Wines and Brandies FRANKFURT (May 11, 2009) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today introduced a ready-to-use kit to determine the sum of D-glucose and D-fructose, which is vital information in the wine fermentation process. This rapid and accurate test for sugar-combination analysis was developed using the Thermo Scientific Arena analyzer, an automated analyzer for colorimetric and enzymatic measurements. The correlation between developed method and the accredited liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method is excellent. The Thermo Scientific Arena analyzer will be displayed on booth B1-C11, Hall 6.1 at ACHEMA 2009 in Frankfurt, Germany, from May 11 – 15. Glucose and fructose are sugars that can convert into alcohol. As a result, the sum of these two parameters has to be controlled several times during the winemaking process from musts to the final product. The developed method is accurate and repeatable both at high and low levels of sugar concentration. The method is quick and easy as no complicated pre-treatment or reagent preparation is needed. The bar-code label in the vials includes all essential data for identification of the reagent, such as lot information, vial size and expiration date. The Thermo Scientific Arena analyzer uses low reagent volumes, which lowers operating costs and minimizes waste. Automation ensures real walk-away analysis, offering efficiency and cost savings and allowing the operator to concentrate on other tasks. In addition to D-glucose and D-fructose, Thermo Scientific offers Arena reagent kits for sucrose, ammonia, glycerol, ethanol, acetic acid, lactic acid and malic acid determinations. These bar-coded, ready-to-use kits are suited not only for wine tests but also for the analysis of juice, milk, honey and special food products. Besides a wide range of system solutions, the open concept of the Thermo Scientific Arena analyzer allows customers to set-up their own testing methods. For example manual methods can be easily converted to automatic operation with user-friendly menus.
