Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces SuperFrost Excell Adhesion Slides at ACHEMA 2009FRANKFURT (May 11, 2009) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced the addition of an adhesion slide to its growing microscope product line at ACHEMA 2009. The Thermo Scientific SuperFrost Excell adhesion slides offer exceptional adhesion and wettability properties that make them ideal for various applications, including histology, cytology, microbiology and hematology. The slides will be displayed on booth B1-C11, Hall 6.1 at ACHEMA 2009 in Frankfurt, Germany, from May 11 – 15. SuperFrost Excell™ is the latest introduction to Thermo Fisher’s innovative adhesion slide range. All Thermo Scientific adhesion-coated slides are made of extra-white glass and fulfill the highest demands for quality. An advanced adhesive coating on the surface reliably fixes the cell and tissue samples onto the slide, making time-consuming coating processes and costly adhesives unnecessary. The new SuperFrost Excell adhesion slides utilize writable frosted ends, eliminating the need for paper labels. The advanced adhesive technology of Thermo Scientific SuperFrost Excell slides is ideally suited for high-temperature and high-pH applications, including heat induced epitope retrieval (HIER), automated staining, plastic, laser capture microdissection (LCM) and cell culture applications. The uniform hydrophillic surface performs well with aqueous reagents, and its unique adhesion properties allow the specimen to adhere during difficult processing. SuperFrost Excell slides are specifically developed for use in HIER methods that require high pH antigen retrieval solutions, including ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) Formalin-fixed, paraffin-imbedded tissue demonstrates more consistent attachment when performing these procedures on the Excell surface. Thermo Scientific SuperFrost Excell adhesion slides have an advanced uniform hydrophilic surface for superior wettability that works extremely well with automated staining procedures. Excell slides also work well for plastic sections such as epon and methyl methacrylate. The uniform hydrophilic surface allows the sections to spread well during initial attachment to maintain section adherence throughout difficult staining procedures. A unique feature of the SuperFrost Excell slide is that it provides excellent tissue adherence of all tissue types, yet the innovative adhesion characteristics do not interfere with specimen release during laser capture microdissection (LCM). For cell culture applications, Excell surface technology conditions the surface to enhance the attachment of anchorage-dependent cell lines, including many fastidious lines, such as primary neuronal cells. Attachment and proliferation is increased so cells achieve a confluent monolayer sooner. The Thermo Scientific microscope slide product line includes diagnostic slides, microscope cover slips, microarrays and lifter slips, microscope slides and SuperFrost Printink slides.
