Thermo Fisher Scientific Announces New Series of Water Analysis Products at ACHEMA 2009

New Meters and Electrodes Deliver Improved Efficiency, Increased Productivity and Environmental Benefits

FRANKFURT (May 11, 2009) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced the availability of a new series of Thermo Scientific water analysis products, including new meters that provide increased efficiency and electrodes that deliver environmental benefits and reduced maintenance. All of these new products will be displayed on booth B1-C11, Hall 6.1 at ACHEMA 2009 in Frankfurt, Germany, from May 11 – 15.

At the show, the company will introduce the new Thermo Scientific Orion Star RDO meter and probe for maintenance-free optical dissolved oxygen measurements. The rugged probe utilizes luminescence technology for the most convenient and accurate measurements. Requiring no warm-up time, membranes, solutions or stirring, this new technology offers the customers highest accuracy and convenience.

The Thermo Scientific Orion DUAL STAR meter offers the ability to make two measurements simultaneously. For example, wastewater laboratories can measure pH and ammonia levels quickly and easily, and beverage labs can measure pH and calcium levels concurrently. The easy-to-navigate meter offers a 5-language, user-friendly interface that makes the most sophisticated ISE techniques easy to perform. The capability to save up to 10 methods, and the related calibration standards per channel, minimizes errors and costs and makes repeated, routine testing easy.

The new Thermo Scientific Orion AQUAfast AQ3070 chlorine meter offers simple operation with multiple test options. The meter is designed for use with the EPA-approved AQUAfast® AC4P71 and AC4P72 methods for free and total chlorine in drinking water and wastewater reporting. Chlorine dioxide, cyanuric acid and pH methods are also programmed into this meter. This feature offers flexibility and cost savings by using just one meter when these tests are needed. The meter includes 100 each of the AC4P71 and AC4P72 powder packets.

The new Thermo Scientific Orion ROSS Ultra Triodes are an addition to the premium line of Orion pH electrodes, the ROSS® Ultra pH electrodes and ROSS Ultra refillable triodes. The ROSS Ultra Low Maintenance Triodes are epoxy body, gel-filled electrodes and measure pH and temperature while offering users the convenience of being able to perform both measurements with one premium electrode. Ideal for precise measurements, the ROSS Ultra Triode offers optimum performance by delivering fast, accurate readings and unmatched ease-of-use with minimal maintenance.

The Thermo Scientific Orion Green pH electrodes contain no lead, mercury or other hazardous substances, which make these electrodes environmentally friendly and allows for easy and hassle-free electrode disposal. The Orion Green electrodes are the first laboratory glass-bulb pH electrodes to meet all the requirements of the Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) regulations. Other glass-bulb pH electrodes are manufactured with glass that contains about 20% lead. Currently, pH electrodes have an exemption from RoHS because of the lead content, while Thermo Fisher has proactively removed lead from its Green pH electrodes. The Orion Green electrodes provide precise pH measurements while using the most environmentally friendly pH-sensing glass on the market.
