« Return to Analytica Media Room Thermo Fisher Scientific's Innovative Nicolet iS10 FT-IR Spectrometer Offers Consistency and Total Accuracy in Pass/Fail Testing for QA/QC Laboratories MUNICH, Germany (April 1, 2008) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, announced the European launch of its groundbreaking Thermo Scientific Nicolet™ iS™10 FT-IR spectrometer at Analytica 2008, providing highly efficient FT-IR spectroscopy for QA/QC laboratories. This innovative new product offers chemists consistency and total confidence in instrument performance through materials verification and simplified operation designed to eliminate user error. The Nicolet iS10 includes capacity for investigative operations, providing QA/QC analysts with the ability to troubleshoot problems without interrupting their fundamental quality processes. The new instrument will be showcased at the Thermo Scientific booth 105/204, Hall B1 at Analytica 2008, being held in Munich, Germany, from April 1-4. "Chemists working in QA/QC laboratories need complete confidence in their materials verification process," said Dr. Ian Jardine, vice president of global research and development for Thermo Fisher Scientific. Providing the highest reliability of their results, the Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS10 incorporates Spectral Performance Verification (SPV). This function monitors the accuracy and performance of the spectrometer on a regular basis, guaranteeing users complete confidence in their results and avoiding the possibility of having to repeat tests. The instrument checks can be carried out overnight ensuring that the system is fully prepared for the following day. "The Nicolet iS10 FTIR spectrometer is a highly useful instrument in the testing of raw materials, intermediates and finished products for consistency, purity and concentration," Jardine stated. ATR is the most common FT-IR sampling technique due to its ease of use and general applicability. However, users looking to incorporate additional sampling capabilities may require a second sampling accessory, such as an integrating sphere or transmission compartment. The Nicolet iS10 can be optionally configured with the Thermo Scientific Nicolet iZ™10 module, which allows two accessories to be installed at the same time. This eliminates accessory exchange time along with the possibility of damage occurring during the exchange process, thereby simplifying the experimental process. To give users additional assurance in their quality control measurements, Thermo Scientific OMNIC QCheck allows users to adjust their system for the measurement of high purity samples or to allow for materials that exhibit some natural variation. OMNIC QCheck also eliminates the need for library development as it automatically compares the data of new materials analyzed with stored references.
