Thermo Fisher Scientific Launches Secure, Online Web Portal to Improve Asset Management and Service Delivery in Healthcare and Life Sciences

NEW ORLEANS (March 3, 2008) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today introduced the Thermo Scientific Resource Center, an interactive Web-based asset and service management solution for real-time optimization of assets, costs and suppliers. This new online tool enables users to submit service requests, track the status of open work orders and immediately access key service performance metrics within the organization, allowing faster, better-informed business decisions to improve productivity and efficiency. The Thermo Scientific Resource Center site will be detailed at the Thermo Scientific booth 1741 at PITTCON 2008, being held March 3 – 6 in New Orleans.

The Resource Center is an integral part of the Thermo Scientific 3D Model, a customized, integrated services solution tailored to the unique needs of the life sciences and healthcare industries. The 3D Model is created through a detailed needs assessment that focuses on three dimensions: business goals and objectives, operating environment and the instrument/equipment mix across the enterprise. This new approach leverages the pre-existing service models, including product support plans, managed maintenance and multi-vendor direct services and the proper blend of preferred suppliers, to create the optimal solution for managing a customer’s asset- and service-related costs.

“We are poised to offer this solution for workflow efficiency to current and future customers,” said Marc Casper, executive vice president of Thermo Fisher Scientific. “The solution’s backbone is based on a standard software package that is secure, functional and easily upgradeable. And it provides a real-time window into the daily operations and performance of a customer’s assets and suppliers, which improves personnel productivity and drives operational efficiencies throughout their enterprise.”

With an easy-to-use interface and 24/7 access, the Resource Center allows users to connect directly with Thermo Fisher, their enterprise-wide solution provider, to accomplish the following:

  • Submit service requests and track the status of work orders – With a single Web-generated request, customers can initiate a request for corrective or preventive maintenance or check the status of a current or scheduled work order. Customers receive direct acknowledgement that a request has been received and the process has begun. Customers can also request a quote for adding equipment to their 3D Model or make inventory modifications, such as decommissioning a particular instrument.

  • Monitor asset and service provider performance – Customers gain access to key performance metrics for all of their assets and suppliers, including Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time To Replace (MTTR), Preventive Maintenance completion rates and more, allowing customers to identify problematic equipment, analyze service provider performance and make more informed purchasing decisions.

  • Generate comprehensive reports and share knowledge – The Resource Center offers an information-rich dashboard that serves as the window into an asset management solution. A configured dashboard presents the maintenance data view of particular interest. Information is organized and formatted clearly for easy comprehension. Vivid charts and graphs provide insightful, side-by-side comparisons of the data selected; clicking on a chart or graph will provide additional detail about the higher-order data. The Resource Center also provides comprehensive maintenance activity and budgeting reports to enhance solution analysis and decision making.

Casper added, “As organizations look for a qualified partner to help manage their assets and streamline their business operations, they can now turn to an industry leader with a proven record of providing high-quality instruments, service and support, applications consulting, consumables and supplies and industry expertise.”

The Thermo Scientific Resource Center and Thermo Scientific 3D Model are part of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s LIFECYCLE Enterprise Solutions portfolio, a comprehensive set of service offerings ranging from acquisition to disposition designed to help customers reduce their total cost of ownership, improve productivity and ensure compliance across their entire enterprise.
