Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces Connects:

Elevating the Role of Laboratory Informatics into the Enterprise

CHICAGO (March 9, 2009) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced a new program aimed at bridging the gap between laboratory-generated data and the enterprise-level information required to support mission-critical management decisions. Thermo Scientific Connects will be introduced at the Thermo Scientific booth 1432 at PITTCON 2009, being held March 8-12 in Chicago.

Thermo Scientific Connects comprises a set of products, technologies and services delivered by Thermo Fisher Scientific in conjunction with its many partners around the world. Connects™ draws on the collective capabilities of the company’s industry-leading laboratory instruments, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Chromatography Data Systems (CDS). Connects also leverages ongoing partnerships with industry leaders including Microsoft, SAP and Oracle, as well as members of the Informatics Thermo Scientific Global Partner Alliance program.

Connects delivers connectivity between Thermo Scientific LIMS and laboratory instruments, equipment and other resources, and enables the integration of that laboratory-generated data with ERP systems, PIMS, MES and other collaboration tools throughout the organization. The integration of Thermo Scientific informatics solutions with a variety of enterprise systems is particularly relevant in today’s business climate, where speed, accuracy and efficiency are critical. Customers need rapid, accurate responses whether they are a food producer responding to a contamination event, a petrochemical company ensuring the safety of the environment or a pharmaceutical company responding to raw materials inconsistencies in their manufacturing process.

Thermo Fisher is well positioned to help its customers, across all industries, respond with more certainty and more accuracy to the many unforeseen challenges facing them today. The combination of the company’s broad scientific instrumentation and software technologies with its strategic partnerships offers the ability to transform laboratory data into relevant business drivers for those companies committed to a healthier, cleaner and safer world.

“Changes in the current environment, whether economic or regulatory, make it imperative for companies to extract greater leverage and utilization from their existing enterprise data systems and LIMS investments,” said Dave Champagne, vice president and general manager of informatics at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “We’re working closely with our strategic partners such as Microsoft, Oracle and SAP, as well as leveraging our Global Partner Alliance, to help our customers achieve these goals.”

At PITTCON, the company will also introduce Thermo Scientific Integration Manager, a comprehensive data management transformation tool within the Connects program. Integration Manager™ provides a conduit to different parts of the laboratory workflow and translates the data generated by instruments, tools and third-party enterprise applications. Integrating laboratory and enterprise data sources fosters greater insight into key business metrics so management can now be provided with a holistic view of activities across the enterprise and make smart operating decisions based on this information.
