ChargeSwitch® Forensic DNA Purification Kit uses magnetic bead technology to allow for rapid and efficient purification of genomic DNA from a variety of forensic samples, including poor or environmentally degraded samples, and is fully validated for Single Tandem Repeat (STR) analysis.

Rapid, Three Step, pH Based Purification Protocol
ChargeSwitch® Forensic DNA Purification Kit allows purification of genomic DNA typically in less than 15 minutes following sample preparation and lysis, using magnetic beads with a unique, ionizable, nucleic acid-binding ligand whose charge can be switched based on the pH of the surrounding medium. Purification is achieved through a simple three-step procedure in aqueous buffers and avoids the use of guanidine, ethanol, and other troublesome reagents.

Validated for Single Tandem Repeat (STR) Profiling
ChargeSwitch® Forensic DNA Purification Kit is suitable for use in STR analysis, for mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) extraction from hair follicles for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis, and includes a flexible protocol to facilitate genomic DNA isolation from a variety of forensic sample types (Figure 1), such as:
• Dried blood spots on paper and clothing
• Hair follicles and hair shafts
• Cigarette butts
• Cigarette paper
• Envelopes
• Drinking vessel swabs
• Chewing gum
• Sperm head cells
• Vaginal epithelial cells
• Door handle swabs
• Strip removed cells (e.g., hats, coats, and gloves)
• "Touch DNA" (e.g., tools, mobile phones, and microscopes)
• Dyed denim

Compatible with Single Tube and High-Throughput Protocols
ChargeSwitch® Forensic DNA Purification Kit is designed for automated processing of both small numbers of samples individually, as well as large numbers of samples using a liquid handling robot or a multi-channel pipette.

For processing up to 24 individual samples at a time the MagnaRack™ two-piece magnetic separation tube rack will be required. This rack consists of a magnetic base station and a removable tube rack, which can hold up to 24 microcentrifuge tubes and can be used with most ChargeSwitch® products.

For high-throughput applications utilizing 96 well blocks, the 96-Well Magnetic Separator will be required. This rack can hold and separate up to 96 magnetic bead samples in a deep well plate when placed on top of the magnetic base station.

All components of the ChargeSwitch® Forensic DNA Purification Kits are shipped at room temperature. Upon receipt, store the Proteinase K at 4“C. Store all other components at room temperature. All components are guaranteed stable for 6 months, if stored properly.
