Retirement of the 3100-Avant™ and 3100 Capillary Electrophoresis Genetic Analyzers

Thermo Fisher Scientific retired the 3100-Avant™ and 3100 Capillary Electrophoresis Genetic Analyzers effective December 31, 2011. Although instrument production has ceased, we will continue to provide service support to 3100 Series Systems users on a time and materials basis, as long as parts and materials are available. This includes related PC software and hardware, reagents, and consumables, as well as maintenance and repair service, and technical and applications support.

Trade-in options 

For best performance, we recommend that you replace your current 3100 instrument with a new 3500 Series System. For transition convenience all 3100 Series Systems, including the 3100 and 3100-Avant™ instruments, can be traded-in toward the purchase of the new 3500 Series instrument.  All pre-existing service contracts will be carried through the upgrade and trade-in process to the new systems.

The 3500 Series incorporates the latest capillary electrophoresis technology, featuring:

  • Higher data quality, offering high sizing precision, improved migration time, and uniformity
  • Easy-to-use data collection software with integrated primary analysis and quality control
  • Ready-to-use consumable packages
  • RFID capability to better track consumables usage
  • Versatile throughput capability with 8 and 24 capillaries

Why has the 7300 Real-Time PCR System been discontinued?

The Applied Biosystems™ 7300 Real-Time PCR System has been and continues to be a valuable and reliable instrument for many of our customers. However, due to the introduction of newer and more technologically advanced instruments such as the recently released  Applied Biosystems™ QuantStudio™ 3 Real-Time PCR System and the QuantStudio™ 5 Real-Time PCR System, the decision was made to discontinue the manufacture and sale of the 7300 Real-Time PCR System on December 31, 2011. On January 1, 2017, the 7300 Real-Time PCR System will be retired.

What service plans are currently available?

All full-coverage service contracts will expire no later than December 31, 2016. We will continue to support all remaining Applied Biosystems™ 7300 Real-Time PCR System users with related software, reagents, and consumables—as well as with our standard comprehensive maintenance and service plans, making every commercially reasonable effort to fully support your 7300 needs. However, this service policy is subject to change due to the ongoing evolution in component technology, which may force us to offer more limited service plans and maintenance. Remaining 7300 customers will be notified of any changes to their level of service if they should occur.

Trade-in options

We're offering trade-ins for the latest-generation of Applied Biosystems™ Real-Time PCR Systems, including the recently released QuantStudio™ 3 Real-Time PCR System and the QuantStudio™ 5 Real-Time PCR System.
