The URO7 antigen has not been detected in any normal fetal or adult tissue tested. A weak staining of Bowman's capsule has been observed in adjacent normal kidney from patients with renal cancer. URO7 defines a subset of renal carcinomas. It has been found in only one adrenal cortical carcinoma and one bladder transitional cell carcinoma. Other carcinomas, as well as astrocytomas, melanomas, sarcomas, leukemias and lymphomas are negative. The URO panel of antibodies was developed to immuno-anatomically dissect the nephron from glomerulus to bladder urothelium - these antibodies detect various cell surface antigens specific to segments of the renal tubule. Several have been shown to occur as tissue related markers of renal cancers.
