Chemokines have been sub-divided into families on the basis of the relative position of their cysteine residues. The a- and b- families, with four cysteine residues, are the largest and best characterized. CCR-6 (previously referred to as the GPR-CY4, CKRL3, or STRL22 orphan receptor) binds MIP-3". It is a CC chemokine receptor that is highly expressed in human dendritic cells derived from CD34+ cord blood precursors.2-4 In addition to dendritic cells, CCR-6 mRNA has also been detected in lymphocytes (CD4 and CD8 T cells and B cells), but not in natural killer cells, monocytes and granulocytes.
