Product Specific Information
RCK107 reacts exclusively with Cytokeratin 14 which is present in basal cell compartments of stratified and combined epithelia.
The antibody may be stored at 4°C. For prolonged storage prepare appropriate aliquots and store at or below -20°C. Prior to use, an aliquot is thawed slowly in the dark at ambient temperature, spun down again and used to prepare working dilutions by adding sterile phosphate buffered saline (PBS, pH 7.2). Repeated thawing and freezing should be avoided. Working dilutions should be stored at 4°C, not refrozen, and preferably used the same day. If a slight precipitation occurs upon storage, this should be removed by centrifugation. It will not affect the performance or the concentration of the product.
Target Information
Cytokeratins (CK) are intermediate filaments of epithelial cells, both in keratinizing tissue (ie. skin) and non-keratinizing cells (ie. mesothelial cells). At least 20 different CKs can be identified. Biochemically, most members of the CK family fall into one of two classes, type I (acidic polypeptides) and type II (basic polypeptides). Belonging to the type I subfamily of low molecular weight keratins and existing in combination with keratin 5, keratin 14 distinguishes stratified epithelial cells from simple epithelial cells and is useful in identification of squamous cell carcinomas. It is considered a prognostic marker in breast carcinomas. At least one member of the acidic family and one member of the basic family is expressed in all epithelial cells.
