This protein belongs to the selectin family of cell adhesion molecules and is expressed by cytokine-stimulated endothelial cells. It is speculated to be responsible for attracting blood leukocytes to sites of inflammation by regulationg the adhesion of cells to the vascular lining. May be involved in the progression of artherosclerosis.
