Immunofluorescent analysis of EGFR in mixed cell cultures of an amelanotic melanoma cell line (Hs695T) and an epidermoid carcinoma cell line (A431). Cells were grown on coverslips, fixed and stained with a monoclonal EGF Receptor antibody (Product # MA1-24678) (green). Nuclei were stained using Hoechst No. 33258.

MA1-24678 detects EGFR from human, porcine, canine, mouse, and rat samples.
MA1-24678 has been successfully used in immunoprecipitation, ELISA, affinity purification and Western blot procedures. Detects a band at ~170 kDa.
The MA1-24678 immunogen is human A431 cell line. This antibody binds to a carbohydrate residue on the external portion of the receptor, but does not influence the binding of EGF.

The protein encoded by this gene is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is a member of the protein kinase superfamily. This protein is a receptor for members of the epidermal growth factor family. EGFR is a cell surface protein that binds to epidermal growth factor. Binding of the protein to a ligand induces receptor dimerization and tyrosine autophosphorylation and leads to cell proliferation. Mutations in this gene are associated with lung cancer. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode different protein isoforms have been found for this gene.
