EGF-Like Module Containing Mucin-Like Hormone Receptor-Like Sequence 1 (EMR1) is characterized as an Orphan-B GPCR with an unknown ligand. The C-terminus contains seven hydrophobic segments, characteristic of a G protein-coupled receptor. The N-terminus of EMR1 has 6 EGF-like modules, separated from the transmembrane segments by a serine/threonine-rich domain, a feature reminiscent of mucin-like, single-span, integral membrane glycoproteins with adhesive properties. EMR1 has been reported to be expressed in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells, monocytes, and hematopoietic and solid tumor-derived cell lines. ESTs have been isolated from human normal spleen and mixed liver/spleen libraries and from human kidney, colon, brain, and bone marrow cancer libraries.
