Immunofluorescent analysis of Ferritin (FTL, green) in HepG2 cells and MCF7 cells. The cells were fixed with formalin for 15 minutes, permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 in TBS for 10 minutes, and blocked with 1% Blocker BSA (Product # 37525) for 15 minutes at room temperature. Cells were stained with a Ferritin monoclonal antibody (Product # MIF2505), at a dilution of 1:200 for at least 1 hour at room temperature, and then incubated with a DyLight 488 goat anti-mouse secondary antibody (Product # 35502) at a dilution of 1:500 for 30 minutes at room temperature (both panels, green). F-Actin (both panels, red) was stained with DyLight 554 Phalloidin (Product # 21834) and nuclei (both panels, blue) were stained with Hoechst 33342 dye (Product # 62249). Images were taken on a Thermo Scientific ToxInsight at 20X magnification.

MIF2505 detects Ferritin in ELISA, IP, IF, and RIA applications and shows reactivity to human samples. The MIF2505 Immunogen is human liver ferritin. MIF2505 detects ferritin which has a predicted molecular weight of approximately 19kDa.

This gene encodes the light subunit of the ferritin protein. Ferritin is the major intracellular iron storage protein in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of 24 subunits of the heavy and light ferritin chains. Variation in ferritin subunit composition may affect the rates of iron uptake and release in different tissues. A major function of ferritin is the storage of iron in a soluble and nontoxic state. Defects in this light chain ferritin gene are associated with several neurodegenerative diseases and hyperferritinemia-cataract syndrome. This gene has multiple pseudogenes.
