This antibody recognises alpha 1 Beta 2Gamma2 GABA-A receptor which is found in up to 50% of the synapses in the brain. It's ligand, GABA is a major inhibitory transmitter in the nervous system, binds to this receptor and opens a channel permeable to chloride. Disfunctions of GABAR are found in anxiety, neurodevelopmental disorderds and epilepsy.
These three genes, GABRA1, GABRB1, and GABRG2, play important roles in the formation and functioning of GABA-A receptors, which are critical for maintaining the balance between excitatory and inhibitory signals in the brain. Dysregulation or alterations in these genes can contribute to neurological disorders and impact brain function. Understanding the functions and variations in these genes can provide insights into the underlying mechanisms of these disorders and potentially aid in the development of targeted therapies.
