GUCY1A1 is heterodimeric protein that consists of an alpha and beta subunit that converts GTP to cyclic GMP, and functions as a receptor for nitric oxide (NO) and other nitrovasodilator drugs. The GUCY1A1 protein is an alpha subunit that interacts with the beta subunit to form the guanyate cyclase enzyme, which is activated by nitric oxide. Several transcript variants encoding a few different isoforms of GUCY1A1 have been found. Diseases associated with GUCY1A1 protein dysfunction includes myocardial infarction.
