Immunofluorescent staining of HeLa using PA5-19576, anti-Gemin 4 antibody. The cells were fixed with PFA (4%) for 10 minutes, permabilised with BSA(1%), normal goat serum (10%) and glycine (0.3 M) in 0.1% T-BST for 20 minutes and exposed to the primary antibody at a concentration of 5 ug/ml for 1 hour at room temp. The secondary antibody was a 448 fluorescence conjugated Goat anti-rabbit IgG (green) at a dilution of 1:1000. A WGA- 594 fluorescent conjugated stain was used to label plasma membranes (red) and the nuclei stain was DAPI (blue).

This antibody is predicted to react with mouse and cow based on sequence homology.
The product of this gene is part of a large complex localized to the cytoplasm, nucleoli, and to discrete nuclear bodies called Gemini bodies . The complex functions in spliceosomal snRNP assembly in the cytoplasm, and regenerates spliceosomes required for pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus. The encoded protein directly interacts with a DEAD box protein and several spliceosome core proteins. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but their biological validity has not been determined.
