It is a 28-amino acid peptide existing in two major forms. Ghrelin plays a significant role in neurotrophy, and is essential for cognitive adaptation to changing environments and the process of learning. Ghrelin plays a significant role in various kinase dependent pathways such as AKT in activating the endothelial isoform of nitric oxide synthase.
