Antigen Specificity: The vitronectin receptor mediates cellular adhesion to vitronectin, fibrinogen, fibronectin, thrombospondin, and von Willebrand Factor. The vitronectin receptor on platelets and megakaryocytes is composed of the integrin ß3 chain (CD61) in association with the integrin aIIb chain (CD41). On myeloid and endothelial cells, and osteoclasts, CD61 is associated with the integrin av chain, CD512. Mouse anti-rat CD61, clone F11, recognizes the human and rat CD61 antigen.

The ITGB3 protein product is the integrin beta chain beta 3. Integrins are integral cell-surface proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain. A given chain may combine with multiple partners resulting in different integrins. Integrin beta 3 is found along with the alpha IIb chain in platelets. Integrins are known to participate in cell adhesion as well as cell-surface mediated signalling.
