Antibody tested in indirect ELISA
Lead is a heavy metal that has major health implications. Even low levels of lead exposure have been associated with harmful effects on health, the major sources in the environment being paint and gasoline. In recent years, lead exposure has been decreased by regulatory actions in removing lead from paint and gasoline and limitation of occupational lead exposure. Lead has no medical uses. Lead toxicity is marked by neurotoxicity, neurodevelopmental defects, gastrointestinal, kidney and bone marrow toxicity. There does not appear to be major liver toxicity from environmental lead exposure. [National Center for Biotechnology Information. PubChem Compound Database; CID=5352425].
