The MA5-14215 immunogen is recombinant human matrilysin (PUMP-1).
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) are proteolytic enzymes capable of degrading connective tissue components. Imbalanced secretion of certain MMP or disturbances in the differential control of MMP by tissue inhibitor of MMPs (TIMPs) are implicated in the invasive potential of malignant tumors. The matrix metalloproteinase, matrilysin/MMP-7/PUMP-1, is thought to play an important role in the early steps of tumor progression. Expression of MMP2, -7, and -11 is greater in pancreatic carcinoma than in normal pancreas.
