Nitenpyram is a neonicotinoid insecticide primarily used in veterinary medicine to control fleas in pets. It functions by interfering with the normal transmission of nerve impulses in insects, leading to paralysis and death. Structurally, nitenpyram is characterized by its nitroguanidine moiety, which is crucial for its insecticidal activity. The gene location and specific metabolic pathways in insects are not well characterized, but cytochrome P450 enzymes are known to play a role in its metabolism and resistance mechanisms. Nitenpyram is subject to photodegradation under UV and solar radiation, which can transform it into potentially more toxic species.
