PA1-4959 detects the HIV-1 p55 protein in HIV samples.
PA1-4959 has been successfully used in Western blot and ELISA procedures. By Western blot this antibody detects a ~55 kDa protein, corresponding to HIV-1 p55 in HIV samples. Also detected are a ~15 kDa, ~17 kDa and ~24 kDa protein, corresponding to the digested proteins.
PA1-4959 immunogen corresponds to the recombinant p55 protein which was over-expressed in E. coli with a plasmid carrying the Gag p55 coding region of HIV-1 virus.
Recombinant HIV-1 Gag p55 protein (Cat. # RP-4920 or RP-4921) can be purchased for control experiments in Western blot assays.
HIV-1 Gag p55 is a precursor protein of several proteins that form the core structure of AIDS virus, indispensable to its reproduction. This protein is digested by HIV-1 protease, first into intermediate products p41 and p15. Then p41 is digested into matrix protein p17 and capsid protein p24. Protein p15 is further digested into nucleocapsid protein p7 and to p6 and p1, both of unknown function.
