SWI/SNF related matrix associated actin dependent regulator of chromatin subfamily A member 1 (SMARCA1, SNF2L1 SNF2LB, Possible global transcription activator SNF2L1, SWI2) is located in gene map locus is Xq25 (Human). SNF2L1, an approximately 116KDa protein, is a member of SWI/SNF family of proteins. Members of this family are characterized by the presence of conserved SNF2 domain, a helicase-like region. They also have an ATPase activity and are thought to have a significant role in regulation of Chromatin remodeling. Although SNF2L1 has a ubiquitous expression pattern, its active form is expressed in neurons suggesting a possible role in promoting neutrite outgrowth and regulating neuronal physiology.
