Serratia marcescens (Sma) is a Gram-negative bacterium that is now recognized as an important opportunistic pathogen. It causes a range of nosocomial infections, such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections, bacteremia, meningitis and endocarditis, particularly in immunocompromised patients [PMID: 35315751].
