Immunofluorescent analysis of A549 cells using a Src monoclonal antibody (Product # MA5-11173). A549 cells were fixed with 4% PFA (20 min), permeabilized with Triton X-100 (0.1%, 10 min), then incubated with a Src monoclonal antibody (Product # MA5-11173) (1:25, 1 hr at 37). Primary antibody was detected by fluor-conjugated donkey anti-mouse secondary antibody (green) was used (1:400, 50 min at 37). Cytoplasmic actin was counterstained with red dye-conjugated phalloidin (7units/ml, 1 hr at 37).

This gene is highly similar to the v-src gene of Rous sarcoma virus. This proto-oncogene may play a role in the regulation of embryonic development and cell growth. The protein encoded by this gene is a tyrosine-protein kinase whose activity can be inhibited by phosphorylation by c-SRC kinase. Mutations in this gene could be involved in the malignant progression of colon cancer. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.
