This clone recognizes the 60 kDa subunit 1 (B-subunit, the product of the VMA2 or VAT2 gene) of S. cerevisiae. By Western blot, this can be used to identify organelles during subcellular fractionation of yeast membranes.
Subunit B (~57kDa) is a non-catalytic subunit of the peripheral V1 complex of vacuolar ATPase. V-ATPase is responsible for acidifying a variety of intracellular compartments in eukaryotic cells. It is an electrogenic proton pump that generates a proton motive force of 180 mv, inside positive and acidic, in the vacuolar membrane vesicles. This polypeptide is associated with the cytoplasmic face of the vacuolar membrane when the V-ATPase complex is fully assembled.
