Western blot analysis of B2M in whole cell extracts from HeLa (lane 1), U937 (lane 2), and A431 cells (lane 3) using a B2M recombinant rabbit oligoclonal antibody (Product # 710274) at a dilution of 1ug/ml. Samples were detected using chemiluminescence (ECL). Results show a band at ~12kDa.

Beta-2-microglobulin is a low molecular weight protein associated with the HLA complex, and is an important cell surface structure. The amino acid sequence of Beta-2-microglobulin is homologous to the constant regions of immunoglobulin heavy and light chains, with a predominantly beta pleated sheet structure. The protein is ubiquitously expressed in the cytoplasm, and is involved in antigen processing and presentation. Beta-2-microglobulin also plays a role in TCR signaling, and downstream signaling in naïve CD8+ cells. Beta 2-microglobulin is encoded by the b2m gene located on chromosome 15.
