5H4-E2 is specific for the Beta chain of hCG. Since the Beta chain levels rise faster in urine, the antibody will detect hCG in urine as early as 1-3 days after successful (artificial) conception as opposed to alpha or dimer specific antibodies. In hCG producing tumors such as certain chorial, testicular, embyionic and lung carcinomas, the Beta chain is also produced in higher quantaties than the alpha or dimeric chains.
