Immunofluorescent staining of MCF7 cells using PA5-19577, anti-hnRNP A2B1 antibody. The cells were fixed with PFA (4%)for 10 minutes, permabilised PBS-T for 20 minutes and exposed to the primary antibody at a concentration of 5 ug/ml for 1 hour at room temp. A solution of BSA (1%), normal goat serum (10%) and glycine (0.3 M) was used to quench autofluorescence and block non-specific protein-protein interactions. The secondary antibody was a 448 fluorescence conjugated Goat anti-rabbit IgG (green) at a dilution of 1:1000. A WGA- 594 fluorescent conjugated stain was used to label plasma membranes (red) and the nuclei stain was DAPI (blue).

This gene belongs to the A/B subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins . The hnRNPs are RNA binding proteins and they complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA . These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and appear to influence pre-mRNA processing and other aspects of mRNA metabolism and transport. While all of the hnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some seem to shuttle between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. The hnRNP proteins have distinct nucleic acid binding properties. The protein encoded by this gene has two repeats of quasi-RRM domains that bind to RNAs. This gene has been described to generate two alternatively spliced transcript variants which encode different isoforms.
