The PA1-25987 immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminal residues 317-339 of human ERK1 + ERK2.
ERK1 is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues and cells. It is activated by phosphorylation of neighbouring serine and threonine residues by MEK1 and MEK2 in response to diverse stimuli such as growth factors and mitogens.
ERK2 is activated by MEK2, which phosphorylates neighbouring threonine 183 and tyrosine 185 residues. ERK2 is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates MAP2 and myelin basic protein. This kinase is an important proximal componant of the MAP kinase pathway involved in transmitting the signals from growth factors, neurotransmitters and hormones at the cell surface to the transcriptional events in the nucleus.
