Blood Cancer Awareness Month 2024

Blood Cancer Awareness Month is taking place in September, and we are thrilled to announce our partnership with the International Myeloma Foundation to shine a spotlight on blood cancer and raise the profile of Multiple Myeloma, the second most common blood cancer.

The theme for this year's Blood Cancer Awareness Month is #kNOwMyeloma, which is centered around the question, "Do You Know Myeloma?".

About the International Myeloma Foundation

In 1990, the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) was founded as the first and largest global foundation specifically focusing on multiple myeloma. The Foundation's impact extends to over 525,000 members in 140 countries worldwide. The IMF is dedicated to improving the quality of life for myeloma patients while working towards prevention and a cure by focusing on research, education, support, and advocacy. They have organized over 250 educational seminars globally, operates the world-renowned InfoLine, and, in 2001, established the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG), a collaborative research initiative focused on improving myeloma treatment options for patients.

For more information about the IMF and their work, please visit their website www.myeloma.org.uk.

Understanding Multiple Myeloma

Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the bone marrow plasma cells—white blood cells responsible for producing antibodies. A cancerous or malignant plasma cell is referred to as a myeloma cell. It is known as "multiple" because there are often multiple patches or areas in the bone where it grows. It can cause bone lesions,  and affect the other healthy cells in the bone marrow, the hollow region within the bones of the spine, skull, pelvis, rib cage, and the areas around the shoulders and hips.

Throughout Blood Cancer Awareness Month, we will be sharing information about multiple myeloma across our social media channels.

Join us in raising awareness and supporting those affected by multiple myeloma this Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
