Life Beyond Neptune The Future of MC ICP MS

By AnalyteGuru Staff, 09.02.2020

It will always stay a mystery, whether or not there is life beyond Neptune, the farthest known planet in our solar system. However, whether or not there is life beyond the Thermo Scientific™ Neptune™ series Multicollector ICP-MS is not a mystery anymore. The future of MC-ICP-MS has been shaped in Bremen, home town of the famous town musicians, and has been given a name Thermo Scientific™ Neoma™ MC-ICP-MS.

Bearing in mind valuable feedback from our customers and building on the strength of our current multi-collector technologies, the Neoma MC-ICP-MS delivers on performance with market-leading sensitivity, isotope ratio precision and accuracy, and enables high throughput for routine applications, while retaining the flexibility required for researching new applications.

The Neoma MC-ICP-MS represents a modern platform with innovative electronics, superior vacuum system offering great abundance sensitivity, and innovative ICP technology making it the highest sensitivity ICP-MS.

At the heart of the Neoma MC-ICP-MS is the new detector array enabling scientists to measure isotope ratios with ultimate flexibility in terms of cup configurations, dynamic range, isotope systems and automation. It consists of up to 12 Faraday cups with up to 24 amplifier slots with automated gain calibration, fast response time and a dynamic range of up to 60 Gcps. For specific applications, such as the analysis of lowest intensity ion beams and/or minor Th and U isotopes, (multi) ion counting and optional RPQs are available.

The Neoma MC-ICP-MS is a high mass resolution instrument, enabling highly precise interference-free isotope ratio measurements. For challenging interferences, such as hydrides, extra high-resolution capabilities can be added. For highest selectivity, a future upgrade path to an MS/MS with collision/reaction cell will become available. The Neoma MC-ICP-MS is designed with this concept in mind, not compromising on performance.

The Neoma MC-ICP-MS comes with Thermo Scientific™ Qtegra™ ISDS™ software, a modern software offering full integration of peripherals, such laser ablation, desolvation and chromatography devices, as well as comprehensive data processing, data evaluation and reporting. It also offers workflow support and automation for ease of use. Setting up a measurement has never been so easy.

Whether you are a scientist working in geosciences, nuclear safeguards, forensics or metallomics, the Neoma MC-ICP-MS is giving you the ability to analyze the smallest samples with the highest sensitivity, the lowest noise, and the flexibility to access every application quickly and easily.

How will the Neoma MC- ICP-MS transform your science?
