EMPACK2015 promises to be a great packing and packaging show. According to the show website, professionals gather at EMPACK to “drench themselves in the latest and greatest in packaging, packaging materials, machines and services… and get a glimpse into the future of packing and packaging.” Although the show offers everything you need to know about packaging trends, it’s compact so you can easily see everything in less than a day. It’s anticipated that over 5,000 professionals from all sectors in the packaging industry will be in the Netherlands looking for solutions to improve the efficiency, productivity and safety of their products, while simultaneously driving down costs. Safety and efficiency are most important to the packaged food industry. Manufacturers of packaged food items have a unique set of challenges, whether it be finding physical contaminants during the production and packaging process or ensuring overfill and underfill don’t occur. We’ll be in Booth # G109, Hall 1 on the show floor, demonstrating how the latest in metal detection, X-ray inspection, and checkweighing technology can help support the quality and safety of your packaged products while reducing product effect and costly waste caused by false rejects. This year, in addition to the innovation challenge for young talent and a special zone for suppliers from the food and drinks processing industries, the Label&PrintConference will be co-located and occur simultaneously with EMPACK. With printing, labeling and converting being one of the fastest growing sectors within the packaging industry, it makes sense to present attendees with the latest in printing machines, inks, and substrates. (Just make sure that what you print on the label matches what’s in the package!) If you get a chance to explore the area outside the conference, Den Bosch (which is short for S’Hertogenbosch and how locals refer to the area) has a lovely centre, great for wining and dining. The city has retained its medieval character, and some of its walls and fortress bastions date from the 16th and 17th centuries. Yet there are plenty of modern shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. If you have a sweet tooth, try the BosscheBols, which are tennis ball-sized chocolate covered pastries. They are messy, but delicious. Can’t make it to the show?
