Food Safety and Quality Solutions at WestPack 2021

Food Safety and Quality Solutions at WestPack 2021While the global pandemic put tradeshows on hold for months, food safety inspection can never take a day off. Now that conditions in the United States are making attending in-person trade shows possible again for those who are ready, WestPack 2021, August 10-12, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif., presents an early opportunity to “kick the tires” on technology solutions once again. According to show organizers, “From packaging design and materials, to automation and turnkey packaging lines, WestPack is the largest West Coast packaging event for suppliers and buyers to discover innovation, engineer new technology, and build a better tomorrow.”

Thirteen thousand attendees from 70 different countries are expected to converge on the 300,000 feet of show floor space, where 1,400 exhibitors will be demonstrating their latest products. With that kind of crowd, the show website notes that onsite safety will play an important part at the event, so organizers are working with the Anaheim Convention Center in conjunction with the state of California to ensure state-mandated health protocols are adhered onsite, including maintaining density of participants.  At this writing, face coverings may be required, so be sure to bring one with you. Temperature screenings may be conducted, more medical staff will be available, hand sanitation stations have been added, and there will be increased cleaning across the Convention Center. Show organizers are also working with the venue partners to help ensure the highest standard of food safety.

Not only have show organizers had to adjust to new protocols, but the pandemic presented unprecedented challenges that tested the mettle of even the largest and most sophisticated food processors. Package sizes shifted from out-of-home commercial packages to those sized for at-home cooking. A shift from fresh to frozen fruits and vegetables enabled consumers to extend the length of time between trips to the grocery store. And the list goes on.

WestPack 2021At WestPack, product inspection applications experts from Thermo Fisher Scientific and West-Link will demo Thermo Scientific™ solutions in checkweighing, metal detection, X-ray inspection and combo units at booth 5224. Detecting physical contaminants in food, such as metal, glass, stone, plastic and bone is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, especially when the contaminant may be as small as 1 mm in diameter. Accurate, reliable food inspection equipment, including food metal detectors and X-ray detection systems provide the highest sensitivity so you can find virtually any metallic or non-metallic substance in your packaged food. Checkweighers provide accurate and reliable in-motion weighing to help ensure consistent product content that matches the label.

These technologies can help you ensure that your food safety inspection program emerges from these unprecedented times with solutions that best support your production goals and protect your brand.
