NPE2015: The International Plastics Showcase is the world’s largest plastics trade show and conference. It is unique among plastics events for its breadth of content, including a world-scale exposition, extensive educational program, and many special presentations.
We are especially excited to be at the show because it brings together all sectors of the plastics industry from all corners of the world, and expands the view of entire plastics and polymers industry from design to production.
I personally like to visit the Technology Pavilions which showcase the latest innovations and state-of-the-art technologies. The huge displays on the show floor, like the working blow-molding polymer film “factory” and basketball-playing robots, are amazing to see. Also amazing are the technologies that we will be demonstrating in booth #S26080, including Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Near Infrared (NIR) technology, Raman spectroscopy, web gauging, rheology, and extrusion, which cover the complete polymer and plastics lifecycle.
Stop by to discover how these analytical and laboratory technologies are helping the polymer and plastics industry drive innovation and productivity. Our application specialists can show you density and copolymer content in polyethylene samples by FT-NIR spectroscopy, in which the feasibility of both qualitative and quantitative analysis of polymeric materials using an FT-NIR analyzer can be clearly demonstrated. We can also demonstrate how FT-NIR was used to determine the dioctyl phthalate (DOP) plasticizer content in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and how FT-NIR can be used to predict polymer composition quickly and with minimal or no sample preparation.
If the topic of rheology and polymer processing (mixing, compounding and extrusion) interests you, ask us how to benefit from the rheological characterization of solid, semi-solid and liquid systems. We’ll supply you with practical solutions for small-scale polymer processing and characterization of when to use a batch mixer or an extruder. If your job is to ensure quality of your plastics products, and you often wonder what went wrong in rejected products, ask our FT-IR experts to solve the mysteries behind your polymers. FT-IR is a fundamental analytical tool for the analysis of organic materials. We’ll explain how it can provide critical information in the evaluation of plastic failures, including material identification, contamination, and degradation. If that’s not enough technology for you, check out Infrared Process Analysis thickness sensors, which are innovative measurement and control solutions for single and multi-layer gauging applications.
Whew! That’s a lot of technology to be seen in one space. So if you want to reward yourself for finding many solutions to your polymers and plastics needs all in one place, take an extra day or two to enjoy the area’s sights after the show is over. There are many theme parks in close proximity to the venue (including one of my favorites, Seaworld). I would also love to go back to Universal Studios because I haven’t been there in years and the Harry Potter exhibit is one of the most talked-about new attractions in the area. It is a fitting choice since many of these molecular spectroscopy techniques and applications seem like magic.
If you want to step away from the science and enjoy some art, have dinner at Café TuTu Tango on International Drive. Its unique art displays and live working artists create a cool atmosphere and complement the outstanding Tapas.
We hope to see you at the show but if you can’t be there — because you don’t have a fictional time-turner to enable you to be in two places at once — you can follow the twitter postings using #NPE2015 or contact us at Info.email@example.com.
