According to ISRI, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, in 2012, global plastics production reached 288 million tons. With the explosive growth in the manufacture of plastics comes the need to ensure that these materials are recycled in an environmentally responsible manner once they reach the end of their useful lives. Recycling plastics from automobiles alone will save 50 million cubic yards of landfill space.
