Where Would We Be Without Our QA/QC Super Heroes?

Written by Jordan Seefeldt | Published: 07.09.2019

Impact of QA/QC in everyday life

Stop in any home improvement store, any shoe store, drug store or even your local tavern, practically every item you find has one thing in common: chemistry. Flooring, paints, glues, plastic heels on shoes, toothpaste, pharmaceuticals, beer, wine and whiskey are all chemical compounds. The chemical compounds we encounter don’t just magically appear. Even drinking water needs chemistry to ensure that it is safe to consume! Chemical compounds are used as raw materials, adhesives, fillers, and so much more. An essential role in the chemical and manufacturing process is quality control.

Where Would We Be Without Our QA/QC Super Heroes?

Imagine a world without quality assurance and quality control. Nasty, right? Imagine toothpaste that comes flying out of the tube or mascara that runs all over your cheeks, imagine beer that tastes like wet cardboard, shoes that break in the middle of the street, or electronic circuit boards without the right solder that fail in critical moments.

Quality assurance testers, quality control engineers, and quality managers are the unsung heroes in the world of consumer and industrial goods. And, as we’ve said, a critical role in manufacturing goods to quality standards is understanding their chemistry.

QA/QC tools from Thermo Fisher Scientific

At Thermo Fisher Scientific we offer a range of products designed specifically to test chemical compounds and material structures for quality standards. One field, molecular spectroscopy, offers a simple, efficient and highly effective method of identifying chemical compounds using parts of the electromagnetic spectrum (hence the name spectroscopy). Related to spectroscopy, rheology investigates the structure of materials. Change the chemistry a little bit and your product may fall apart, stay stuck in its container or run like water.

So, let’s take an interesting look at the world of quality assurance and quality control. See what our world would be like without them and witness how the tools they use truly make them Heroes.
