It’s a new year, and you might be thinking about increasing your knowledge of the latest trends and technologies in order to help make your steel-making operations more efficient and help your bottom line. Where do you begin? Many start with typing in some keywords in Google and seeing what companies and products appear on the first page of results. You might even see a large “knowledge box” panel on the page that captures some of the information you need to get started… though that pre-populated info many not be helpful at all.
The steel industry faces increasing demand for clean and ultraclean steel with improved mechanical properties. With efficiency and sustainability in mind, steel producers also strive to produce quality strip in a manner that maximizes mill yield and minimizes scrap while meeting stringent customer specifications for thickness, width, hardness, and strength. Where does a steel-making operations manager look for the latest technologies to help meet both customer and bottom line requirements? Usually, it’s search engines like Google.
A search engine publication recently discussed how the Google search engine automatically generates the knowledge boxes shown in search results for queries about people, places, and things. According to the article, a knowledge panel will vary from one entity to another, but generally includes summaries of the topic, descriptions, key facts, links to social posts and websites, as well as more specialized information depending on the type of entity being searched. Unfortunately, that box may have been way off the mark for your needs, so you will have to keep searching, and typing in different keywords to get the information you want. The next thing you know is you’ve spent most of your day just trying to find information.
Well, instead of having to type in the various keywords involved in steel making, here’s a “box of knowledge” about improving steel manufacturing processes and production methods . No need to figure out the right keywords. Just visit our steel manufacturing web pages and you’ll find the latest in equipment and technologies — including those involved raw material quality control, scrap metal analysis, sintering, hot and cold rolling, gauging, and even environmental and air quality monitoring for steel operations.
Start the year right. Check out our information on instruments, equipment and software to help steel producers improve product quality, boost efficiency, lower productions costs, and create safer, cleaner production lines. You’ll find free ebooks, process maps, comparison tables, and videos, in addition to many other free resources that will help you improve each stage of the steel manufacturing production process, from incoming raw materials to the final coating line. And it’s all in one place.

Baker Tubulars says
There should never be any banning of any industries. Only advancements such as these which optimize the entire industry as a whole and therefore cause a ripple effect throughout other industries.
OCTG casing and tubing, structural steel, and other pipe products should be inspected and pass that inspection, but that does not mean that product is the end-all-be-all. There always needs to be advancements or else we would still be using wooden wheels.. they work, but there are much better ways. We need to keep searching for more ways to improve throughout every industry, not just steel operations.
Baker Tubulars believes this will help guide the OCTG market for years to come.
