If you want to network with more than 6,500 people in the mining and minerals industry to share innovative ideas, best practices and cutting-edge research, then you may want to consider attending SME’s 2017 Annual Conference & Expo. This is an international conference being held by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration from February 19-22, 2017 in Denver Colorado USA. This year’s event will focus on creating value in a cyclical environment when it comes to today’s volatile commodities market. The keynote speaker will be discussing how the future of the mineral industry depends on understanding and predicting the catalysts of change that will improve commodity prices.
In addition to the great speakers and presenters that you can listen to at the show, more than 800 exhibitors are expected to display the latest in industry technological advancements. In fact, we will be exhibiting the latest OES, XRD, XRF and other mineral analysis technologies and equipment in Booth # 1322.
X-ray diffractometers (XRDs) are used in the mineral industry to quickly obtain detailed structural and phase information of materials. XRD is a versatile, nondestructive analytical technique that provides high-performance results. Unique curved detectors can measure all diffraction peaks simultaneously across a wide angular range, so analysis is completed in just a few minutes on most samples regardless of resolution requirements. One can measure the whole 2 theta range simultaneously and in real time, with no scanning required, resulting in faster turnaround time on sample analysis enabling more timely delivery of critical information that can be used to optimize processes and reduce costs.
For minerals sampling technology, integrated X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) techniques are considered for sampling and analysis. In some sampling equipment, there are dedicated immersion XRF probes athat are mounted right into the final stage  of a representative, multi-stage metallurgical accounting sampling station. This enables simultaneous analysis of up to 20 elements and %solids while providing shift composite samples suitable for metallurgical balance. Some XRF analyzers  have duplex versions in order to economically measure two adjacent process streams separately. A pebble screens option is available for grinding circuit classifier product stream sampling stations in order to assist with the detection and rejection of  oversized particles to the downstream process. These sampling stations may also incorporate anoutlet distributorto divide the slurry flow into separate streams for processing in parallel flotation trains. This combination of continuous sampling and immersion probe analysis technology provides high availability and accurate on-line analysis and sampling solutions allowing plant operators to confidently follow and respond to process trends in real time, enabling  improvements in accountability, process efficiency, and profitability.
Even belt feeders need to keep up with the latest technology. Nowadays you can monitor your conveyor belt feed to crushers, mills, screens and other processes with an accuracy of ±0.5%. With these systems, you can monitor production output and inventory, or control product loadout, while providing vital information for the management and operation of your business.
Besides offering the latest innovative products at exhibit booths, SME is also known for its informative technical sessions. This year’s oral and poster session topics will include:
- Coal & Energy
- Environmental
- Health & Safety
- Mineral & Metallurgical Processing
- Industrial Minerals
- Aggregates
- Mining & Exploration
- Bulk Material Handling
Needless to say, you will learn a lot about the latest mineral analysis technologies if you go to the show. But if you can’t make it to the event and would like more information  on any of the above technologies or other technologies involved in mineral processing and analysis, please visit www.thermofisher.com/sme or comment below and send your contact information to advancing.mining@thermofisher.com.
